Two Sided Self depicts the artist in a familiar and romanticised bush setting, where the subject partly conceals her face with glove-clad hands that imitate Sulphur-crested Cockatoos. This self portrait playfully hints at theatre, surrealism, traditional Australian landscape painting and the European gaze to explore human interactions with the natural environment, relationships between native and introduced species, and complexities in Australian landscape, place, being and belonging.
